Cycling for connoisseurs
Burgundy, a region rich in history and with a famous cuisine.
On this round trip you become acquainted with centuries-old abbeys and castles, sleepy little villages and cheerful towns. Winding their way through your stages like a guiding light are the vineyards. The stages allow you the time and space to park your bike for a little longer and enjoy an honest Burgundy wine.

The place of arrival is Auxerre, where you can have a walk through the old historic town center. The 16th century timber-framed houses, the Gothic cathedral and the monastery set the atmosphere of this beautiful town. On your way to Montigny you will pass one of the largest and also one of the most beautiful Cistercian churches. The play of light and shadow in the forests you ride through is continued artificially in this church. One day later you are in the middle of the Chablis region, famous for its delicious wines. And so on the third day, an hour’s cycling will bring you to a guided tour with wine tasting. After the tasting in Chablis, however, you will have to notch up a good number of kilometers to get to L’Isle-sur-Serein via Noyers, also well worth seeing. You will stay in the mood on your way, for the exquisite little wine villages set the scene. This day concludes with a wonderful dinner. On the next day a ride over a vast plateau brings you to Avallon where an evening walk through the old town center will give you a taste of the couleur locale. A short stage then takes you on small roads through a splendid countryside to Vézelay.
In the Middle Ages this town was a major stopping place for the pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostella. The Romanesque basilica is registered as Unesco world heritage. The following day starts with a climb before you reach the valley of the Yonne. The strenuous bit is soon over, for the rest of the day you follow the course of this river to end the day in Accolay, a peaceful village with a friendly hotel where the host will regale you with a sumptuous dinner. Water dominates the last stage. Several large rivers flow in this region, connected with each other by canals. You ride along the banks of the waterways in beautiful surroundings and through a number of wine villages. In Bailly you can rest for a moment with a divine fresh sparkling crémant de Bourgogne before you ride the last few kilometers to Auxerre.
